Competence Centres
The Chips for Europe Initiative will support a network of competence centres, located across Europe, that will provide access to technical expertise and experimentation in the area of semiconductors, helping companies, SMEs in particular, to approach and improve design capabilities and developing skills. The competence centres will become poles of attraction for innovation and for new talent. They will require close collaboration between researchers and industry. They will increase availability of internships and apprenticeships, raise students’ awareness of the opportunities in the field and provide support dedicated scholarships for students also aiming at increasing women participation, among others via the EU STEM Coalition.
Design Platform
The design platform is a cloud-based virtual environment to be made available across the Union, integrating a wide range of existing and new design facilities, from IP libraries to Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools, as well as support services. The platform will be accessible in an open, non-discriminatory and transparent way, stimulating wide cooperation between users and key actors of the ecosystem whilst reinforcing Europe’s chip design capacity. Stakeholders including SMEs and RTOs will have access to the design infrastructure with clear IP rules.
ECS Tool
The ECS Collaboration Tool is a new Approach to inspiring innovation and is open to all experts in Electronic Components and Systems and available 24/7. The new tool is released in conjunction with the European Forum for Electronic Components and Systems (EFECS) 2017, but is available to support any related event, regardless of the funding instrument involved. It can also be used as a “stand-alone” project consortium building tool.
