Industry4.E pulls together the necessary work that is core to the “digitalisation of industry”. To keep production industries competitive, more and more IT- and ECS-driven know-how is needed, based on platforms, standards and appropriate certifications for safety. Present day fragmentation stands in the way of reaping the full benefits offered by digitalisation: Industry4.E will address these issues.

The Industry4.E Lighthouse Initiative publishes an important Whitepaper, summarising its findings.

One of the biggest challenges currently facing Europe is the execution of an effective strategy for twin transition (green and digital). Today, the digital landscape remains fractured, with significant challenges in areas such as standardisation, interoperability, and translating research to real commercial impact.

The paper outlines future trends in manufacturing, building on a scan of the digital research landscape. It develops key flagship concepts defining the focus for policy and for advanced ECS research. Identifying the critical enabling technologies underpinning these endeavours, it provides an execution roadmap. Success on this paradigm is critical to the digital sovereignty of the European Union and will ultimately require closer connectivity between related policy, strategies, funding initiatives, projects, end-users, and stakeholders more generally.
